Chiefs Stage Epic Comeback in Super Bowl LIV

MIAMI GARDENS, Fla.- 6:23 left in the fourth quarter, Patrick Mahomes II is on the verge of a late storybook comeback in Sundays nights matchup between the San Francisco 49ers and the Kansas City Chiefs. This crucial third down at San Francisco’s’ 21-yard line was vital to the Chiefs efforts for NFL immortality.

The Chiefs were down 20-10 with Mahomes ready to snap the ball. He throws a pass to star TE Travis Kelce covered by 49ers FS Tarvarius Moore, towards the front of the endzone. The yellow penalty flag soon followed, with apparent disgust from Moore and the 49ers. A debatable pass interference call put the former NFL MVP on the one-yard line.

A textbook play-action pass to Kelce adds seven more to the Chiefs eventual comeback efforts. The Chiefs would go on to overcome the deficit and win Super Bowl LIV 31-20 in Miami Gardens, the city’s first in 50 years.

Miami’s Hard Rock Stadium was the setting for Super Bowl LIV. A matchup between two of the powerhouse teams in the NFL, the 49ers and Chiefs, this being the first time in the NFL’s 100 seasons that the two teams have met in the big game.

Super Bowl MVP Mahomes throwing for 268 yards with two added TDs. Despite two interceptions Mahomes was able to lead the Chiefs in the late fourth quarter comeback. A three and out stop by the Chiefs defense put Mahomes and company in perfect position to score.

Mahomes told Fox Sports Reporter Chris Myers, “We never lost faith. That’s the biggest thing…We believed in each other.”

The Chief definitely didn’t lose faith with multiple big plays late in the second half in Sundays big matchup. An upsetting outcome for 49ers coach Kyle Shanahan with yet another loss on footballs biggest stage.

Ironically, the Kansas City Chiefs participated in the first Super Bowl in 1967 losing 35-10 to the Green Bay Packers. With the NFL concluding on its 100 seasons, Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs were destined to be vanguards of a new decade of football.
